I always felt like Magnifico's decent into maddness didn't quite fit. He wasn't unredeemably evil in the beginning, so it didn't work to turn him that way. That being said, a girl having a relationship with a "star boy" doesn't work either. I like that star was just a star because the concept of a "wish" in the movie went so far beyond just simply being magical. Many of the wishes in the movie were things that were completely acheivable without magic, and I like that they centered the plot around making that point. I feel like that point would have been less impactful if Asha had fallen in love with a magical boy.
